Defying Gravity Animatic by Heidi Jo Gilbert

One of my mates showed me this a while back and thought it was most definitely worth a blog post. This is a short animatic by animator Heidi Jo Gilbert that she did in her own time. I think it works really well with the soundtrack and helps make what is a classic broadway musical fit into the possibility of being a fully animated feature film. It is also such a great example of an animatic too. the pacing and the feel are really nice and as I watch it back you can really get the sense of how it would look when it is fully animated. Heidi Jo Gilbert is a great inspiration for me and you should go check out the rest of the stuf she has on her blog. its incredible. click here

The City Of Zurich - PreProduction

I've been set the fun task of prepping the shot of the city that comes at the end of our title sequence. So far i've been working from images of Zurich Skylines and looking at the way the roofs looked back in the begin of the last millennium. I came up with a simple concept drawing that I used to help give me a vision to start making it in 3D.

From this I then began to cut out the layers of the image in cardboard. Then Painted them in different shade of grey. I though It helped make each layer stand out from the other. Here is what the model looked like in the end.

I was pleased with how it came out and took some more photos of it. This time I messed around with the lighting to see what kind of effects I can achieve. When we get round to doing it properly I will be able to make use of some studio lighting and have more chances to be more experimental with the lighting.

Dance Inspiration - Tremough House

This evening I went to watch one of my friends dance pieces she worked on inside and outside of Tremough House. It was really impressive. I had such a creepy atmosphere to it. So! I thought I could use some of the ideas and poses I spotted to make some interesting watercolours. I really like how they turned out. I like the pointing finger and the twisted bodies it works really nicely.

Artist Appreciation - ACHRAF AMIRI

This guy is incredible! Just the simple lines that he works into his illustrations are incredible. I love the mix of fashion and the macabre. The glitz and the gore. It's fantastic. He is a Belgium artist who works mainly within fashion illustrations and does some stunning Caricatures . Here are just a few of his best pieces. BUt go check out his blog full of more amazing work.

Very Productive Day

Today went really well. I've done the story board for my group project today. I will upload that some point tomorrow but I thought I would share some drawings I did today too. Both with very strong character styles.

Life Drawing with the 2nd Years.

Here are some of the drawings I produced in this evenings life drawing class. I found the top one where we got to caricature the model the most fun. I love the shapes.

Easter Sketchbook Work

As promised here are some of my doodles I've been doing over the easter holidays. I didn't really get the chance to do any animations over the holidays like I wanted to due to trying to get as many hours at starbucks as possible. But I'm really pleased with some of these. I love some of the expressions I've achieved in a few of these. They really have character in them.
